frAme CABIN
SCHEMATIC DESIGN

RETREAT IN THE THE WOODS.
Designed for a young couple and their two daughters as a retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life, the frAme cabin is situated on a plateau, overlooking the northern most part of the Gila National Forest. With spectacular views to the south, one client request was an an oversized deck for entertaining. The design tiers the deck, utilizing the natural grade, with each platform offering a differing level of privacy and activities. The lowest tier features a central fire pit and seating area, another a built-in hot tub, and the third, a built-in hammock and private lounge space.
The interior program includes an open living / kitchen area, laundry nook, mud space, primary bedroom, bathroom, and sleeping loft for the children. The design concept focused on utilizing natural daylight to illuminate every space while still maintaining privacy from the neighboring properties. A large custom stair, built-in wood storage, wood burning stove, exposed glulam beams, plywood finishes throughout, and plenty of storage were all incorporated and finely executed. The simple frame shape allowed for creative, modern moments to punctuate the geometry. Pop-out windows, clever storage solutions, and art displays offset the clean form.
