CABIN H
SCHEMATIC DESIGN

MICRO COTTAGE.
Cabin H is the schematic design of a small, 800 sq ft weekend home for the young Henderson family. Located in the mountains near Cloudcroft, New Mexico, and designed as a retreat, it features a large outdoor deck, high, 20 foot exposed ceilings, polished concrete floors, studio style floor plan, and large garage.
One request of the owner was a prominent garage for working on cars. The floor plan proposes a split level with the garage located toward the back of the property, dug into the hillside where it is out of view. This leaves open, expansive views for all the living spaces.
Other fun design elements include an indoor / outdoor fireplace / built-in deck hammock, and a large peek-a-boo window into the garage allowing the cars to be fully on display. The materiality speaks to the theme of modern day cabin with standing seam, wood cladding, exposed wood structure and sheathing, and polished concrete.
