JINJA COORS
BUILT WORK

COCKTAILS WITH A VIEW.
A staple on Albuquerque’s West Side, Jinja Bar and Bistro seldom used their small patio space prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Despite the amazing views, it was unprotected, lacked direct access to the restaurant, and was overall uncomfortable and uninspiring.
In 2021 I was first approached about upgrading the space. Shade from the intense NM sun, maintaining the spectacular views, and accessibility were among the owner’s primary goals. My personal goals extended beyond to brining in softer design elements, incorporating uniquely "Jinja" aesthetics that better tied the patio to the restaurant, and more clearly defining the space.
The final design offers a mix of seating options including outdoor booths. It utilizes dark wood, rusted metal and bright pops of color. Board formed concrete planters do quadruple duty by injecting softer vegetation into the environment, providing privacy from adjacent tenants, buffering noise from the adjacent street traffic, and clearly defining the boundary. The most fun aspect of the design is the "umbrella." One of Jinja's go-to decorations of choice is the umbrella. At the same time, an circular, stone fountain was one existing element the client was adamant about saving. Rather than fight either, the design embraces both with an inverted "umbrella" designed for shade. It encircles the fountain and offers yet another type of seating option with a custom circular drink rail that boasts some of the best views in town!
This job represents my abilities as a designer, communicator, and project leader. Construction Administration was smooth and executed without issue. The General Contractor was a recommendation I presented the Owner and only furthered the quality working relationship I had previously established with the GC.
Project was delivered on time and budget.
