BUBBLE KISS.

Bulle Bisou (French translation): Bubble Kiss. Capturing the spirit of a freshly opened bottle of champagne was the concept that drove the Bulle Bisou Champagne Bar. This conceptual approach resulted in a multi-level bubble form that embraces the tiered pedestrian path of the Quai des Tuileries. The site serves as a destination and primary circulation route for bikers, pedestrians, or those looking to soak in the views from the banks of the Seine.

“Seeing and being seen” was a guiding narrative that continued into the interior design with multi-tiered bar, stage, and seating platforms as well as a large bottle display that reaches from the lower level through the upper floors. This move is reminiscent of the column of champagne bubbles rising within a glass and allowed for one to experience a visual connection through multiple spaces by encircling the display with vertical circulation.

Paris has a long tradition of being the design capital of the world; in fashion, in architecture, and in the arts. Displayed among the world’s foremost galleries, constructed of steel and glass, we looked to the Art Nouveau style for inspiration. The delicate structure and large expanses of glass helped make evident our formal language and concepts. The structural and mullion lattice system was designed using scale and proportional cues taken from the local vernacular which provided a sustainable means of shading the glass. By studying the size and spacing of our fins, we were able to simultaneously derive a functional yet aesthetically pleasing rhythm.
